2.F. Breadth

To receive an Excellent rating, a faculty member should demonstrate breadth in teaching expertise, e.g. the ability to teach a variety of subject areas, at the upper and lower levels, or courses for non-majors.

One of my greatest strengths as a member of the ISAT faculty is my versatility and ability to contribute as an instructor in many areas. I have demonstrated breadth in my teaching expertise since joining JMU in 2009, as shown below. In particular, my teaching during the 2013-2014 academic year spanned all instructional levels (from high school to graduate), and covered a broad range of topics ranging from introductory science and research, to statistics, to advanced data processing and analysis:

  • I had 8 high school seniors in ISAT 181 for the JMU/ISR Dual Enrollment program
  • 2 sections of general education GSCI 104 (Severe Weather on Earth and in Space) in May and June 2013 (15/15 non-ISAT majors)
  • 2 sections each of GSCI 161/162 (service courses) in May and June 2013 (for IdLS majors)
  • 3 sections of an analytical foundations course (GISAT 251)
  • 3 sections of upper level IKM courses (ISAT 341 and 344)
  • 1 section of graduate-level ISAT 640/IES 5005 for MS SERM with E. Salib & M. Benton

My teaching experiences at JMU have also included honors seminars and graduate seminars, and in Fall 2014 I will teach my first course for the Intelligence Analysis program (ISAT 252, Programming & Problem Solving). The following is a list of all of the courses I have taught in these categories:
